[edit] Versions
The Renault 5 was made in two guises - the (retrospectively called) Mk I, which was built from 1972 to 1984, and the "Super 5", made from 1984 to 1996.

[edit] Design, Development and Launch
The Renault 5 was designed using the Renault 4 as its base. It was envisaged as a slightly wider, softer and more modern version of the 4. Michel Boue penned the design for the 5 and it was received with almost unversal acclaim by the board at Renault. In fact, the design was accepted straight away! Most car designs go through multiple iterations of clay models before they are accepted. Not so with the 5 - it was as if it was perfect at the outset.

Obviously, the actual numbers of cars remaining will vary slightly from year to year. The number of remaining Renault 5s makes the car quite rare these days. How many do you see on your travels?
