1981 Renault 5 Gordini- part restored

Reluctant sale as I have acquired two Gordini cars, and I have not got the time to complete this project.

There were 3399 Renault 5 Gordini's registered during their production run (1979to1982).

Accordingly to the DVLA there are only 25 left - 6 are taxed and the rest on SORN.

This is one of those cars, no current MOT or tax as part way through restoration

These cars have only 20bhp less than their Turbo successor and in the right hands can be tuned above the turbo.

This car, in rare metallic blue, was originally from Guernsey hence the unique number plate; it was family owned until 1990 when it was brought to the UK.

Guernsey logbook and UK V5 document both available as per photo

The last Mot was June 1991-92, thereafter dry stored.

The current mileage is approx. 55k, with last MOT from 1991 showing 38,302 mls.

I bought the car as a non-starter, I’m glad to say I have got the engine to run, although only on idle. It is definitely over fuelling and hunts a bit, but it does sound OK, in fact better than my other Gordini on tick over- Doh! Not sure what it would take to get the engine road going, but at least you can hear it running.

I've not looked at the brakes yet, but do know they are not seized on. The brake pipes look ok, they just need cleaning up and the calipers an overhaul.

The car has a brand new radiator, brand new lumenition electronic ignition, (no points to worry about!) brand new facet electric fuel pump, (replaces original mechanical pump) new starter motor, recon-drive shafts, progressive carburettor and a KN pancake air filter.

Also benefits from a remote oil cooler with remote oil filter, finished with braided stainless steel hoses

The previous owner had stated he had fitted a different engine from another Gordini, one from a friend who had polished and ported the head with a balanced flywheel. I have no proof of this and therefore cannot guarantee it. However I would say the engine must be at least partly increased spec if you consider the electronic ignition, the electric fuel pump, progressive carb, KN filter and remote oil cooler with filter.

Whilst the previous owner had the engine removed he fully prepared and painted the engine bay.

The car has brand new rear quarter panels, these are complete panels that fit half way down the rear pillar and extend right across the rear qtr round to the door jamb. These panels are neither cheap nor easy to fit so no need to worry about rust and filler that most other 5’s will have by now.

The driver’s door has had a new door skin

The front A pillars have been fully welded

The floor pan has been welded in the past (front footwell area only) and is free from major rust

The rear suspension mounts look ok and are free from rust.

Bodywork repairs have either consisted of new panels or welded repairs, and NOT made with filler!

There is some surface rust around the roof gutters and in the odd place that needs attention, but this is not too bad, just needs sanding and spraying.

The interior is complete with the correct equipment for the Gordini i.e. split rear seats. There are a couple of pinholes to the seats but no tears or sagging. The head lining is also where should be i.e. does not sag.

There are minor bits of trim missing such as the fog lights, grill, front head light holder, and small clip on parts, but these can be easily sourced via specialist clubs and ebay.

The wheels are original Gordini alloys which have been painted, the tyres are Pirelli and have good tread. These are OK for now but would assume these have been on the car a long time .

Due to the brand new real quarter panels and door skin, the car has been lightly sprayed in grey primer for protection only, with the remaining panels sprayed to match. The bodywork needs a final rub down and preparing. There are a couple of minor dents but nothing too serious.

In summary the car has had the major work carried out, both bodywork and engine will need some further work but at least this can be done to your standard and finish. It is a good way to get on the Gordini ladder.

The wining bidder will need to pay within 7 days, £100 deposit by paypal is required. You will need to arrange a trailer or towing dolly for collection, about £45.00 for a day

Please note you are bidding to buy, not to come and look and then haggle. You are welcome to inspect the car at any time. I am 10 mins from Jct 35 M4. (Typically 2 hrs from Birmingham and M25)

I have tried to be as thorough as possible, but can’t necessarily know every thing about the car. I will try and answer any questions you may have. You can call me on xxxx xxxxxx. Hopefully you can be the next person to make it 7 Gordini’s on the road - happy bidding!

I should say I do have the car advertised else where and reserve the right to end the auction early.
