History of A948 SYH
First registered 01 07 1984
I purchased the car in June 1998, with 49,000 miles on the clock. Originally, it was a Renault 5 "Le Car 2" Turbo, but somewhere down the line of its many previous owners, someone chose to turn the car into a Renault 5 Gordini Turbo. This might be frowned at by some but to me it is preferrable - I get one of the last of the cars made (hence hopefully better condition) and also the Gordini Turbo cars are higher specified - nicer interior with split folding rear seats, electric windows and alloy wheels. As purchased, this car had all of the extras except electric windows.
I embarked on a long-term restoration project in October 2000, deciding to strip and rebuild the car myself, but farm out the bodywork, engine and gearbox restorations.
The restoration was complete in June 2004!
