I bought this car from the local scrapyard in late 2000. My wife and I (I think she was still my girlfriend at the time) were just browsing to see if there was anything interesting, and she suddenly rushed up to me saying: "Andrew, I've found a Gordini Turbo!".
To which I replied, "You can't have!"
"I have... It's got the Gordini steering wheel," she said...
Sure enough, it was a Gordini Turbo, an extremely rare find in a scrapyard in 2000... It did have a "council collection" notice on its windscreen, so I assume it had been abandoned, thus explaining its presence in the scrapyard.
So, I agreed to buy the car for £80 (GPB), and to have it transported home. I was quickly able to get it running, but it was extremely smoky and refused to run properly. After replacing the turbo it ran almost perfectly. The car did have the later C6J-750 Engine, which indicates it was a late model Gordini Turbo. The engine sounded sweeter than the one in my main Gordini Turbo car, but at that stage I'd already decided to get the engine in that car rebuilt.
I was even able to drive it up and down the local industrial estate, and it felt quite quick! The clutch juddered, but the car was otherwise ok mechanically - even the brakes worked. Unfortunately, however, the body wasn't in good condition - for example, the windscreen frame was totally rotten.
The car was scrapped some time in 2001.
I still have its engine and other parts...
