[edit] History of A636 OKX

Originally a company car for a managment consultancy (Dimsdale Management Services Ltd), and in 1986 the lady who had been using it as her company car, decided to buy it for herself (Rosemary Martin). I then acquired it in 1999, had 80k (now 110k) on it with all the stamps.

Delivered by Renault Welwyn Garden City. Still have dealership livery - plates, tax holder, key fobs and rear window sticker.

Starting to rust again on rear arches and sills, but not too bad yet. Had some welding to anitroll bar points.

Fitted with a rare Foha spolier from Austria, Omp exhaust, lowered front and Yokohama A539 tyres. Otherwise kept original.

Up for Auction is a 1983 Renault 5 Gordini TURBO with Genuine 113K mileage very low mileage with Service History, not many like this left specially in this condition.

A company car from the early 80's, was delivered by Garden City Garages to Dimsdale Management Services. This company was the first recorded owner and it was the company car for a lady called Rosemary Martin. Two and a half years later, in 1986, she loved it so much that she took private ownership, as a result the log book has two previous owners. In the history is Dimsdale’s membership certificate for the AA (expired in 1987).

It was then sold to a Renault Enthusiast called Tarquin in 1999 who owned the car for nearly 9 years. Tarquin took very well care of the car. I happened to bump into Tarquin in Halfords earlier this year. When I saw the car I was so amazed and wanted it as a gift for my wife. I got talking to Tarquin and asked him if he would like to sell the car to me. Tarquin emailed me a few month later telling me the car was about to go on ebay. The car had so much intrest on ebay with over 40 bidds, and one of the most watched items, the car was fetching serious money, still having 4 days left i called Tarquin and asked if he could kindly sell me the car as it was for my wife, me being a Renault Enthusiast and he wanted it to go to a good home, he finally gave in.

Reason I'm selling the car is because my wife is finding it hard to drive as they only came with 1 side mirror, and she feels a clio 1.4 is more suitable for her. The car is very relaible and has never broke down, since i had it i replaced the wiring for the windows as they were not opening, now they are fine. This car is very cheap to insure we pay £110 for 12 months insurance providing its garaged and covered over night which it is. The Road Tax is only about £60 for 6 months, and it is very good fuel economy, its hardly driven but for £20 fuel you can drive about 150 miles in town, which i think is very good.

It comes with all the dealership livery from new: rear window sticker, key fobs, tax disc holder and original number plates (all with Garden City Garages on).

In 2000 front wings were renewed and areas of the car were resprayed professionally (2 pack, oven baked). Rear flanks were not resprayed, this was to retain the turbo graphics, consequently this area needs polishing otherwise it is faded. Its rare to see a road going Gordini with original factory graphics.

Full MOT and is taxed : Ready to go!

Good Points

Matching numbers!

Very Relaible

Very good condition for age

cheap running cost ie fuel, roadtax, classic insurance

Extensive history with piles of receipts.

Mileage is verified by service stamps in service book up to 80k and then all MOT’s from last 10 years

the previous owners used it regularly at weekends for the last 8 years and it has only broken down once (broken water pump belt), fixed in 15 minutes. It has no problems in traffic jams, is nippy and is a great motorway cruiser – keeps up with the best of them.

The Alpine built Engine is the quietest 5 I have ever known. In a traffic jam you can barely hear it running! And yes its the original engine from new.

Turbo was changed at 80k with a unit from Turbo Technics (so it still has plenty of life left).

polished orginal alloys with new tyres.

Well loved and not thrashed, regularily serviced.

Brand new brakes fitted 2 weeks ago

New Omp exhaust just fitted for the MOT – Italian rasp works well with the French chic.

Yokohama A539 tyres all round (only covered 2000 miles since).

Has an Austrian Foha Mk1 5 roof spoiler - rocking horse poop! (I have never seen another Gordini with one of these).

New clutch is included if ever needs fitting.

Good investment as the value of this classic car is only going to go up!

Bad points

Rear arches will need repairing soon, they are rusting from inside out and are probably shot about 2 inches up the arch.

Its a 24 year old car so has other smaller areas of rust appearing (nothing big or structural). Surface rust has been removed from front and rear chassis rails and coated in red oxide.

Like most 5's of this age it has had needed welding to underside (anti roll bar mounts and near side jacking point).

Replaced radiator last year, but could only find a new Gordini atom (valeo) radiator at the time, so the fan and oil cooler have been fitted crudely to it. That said, this smaller radiator performs excellently and never overheats, I am often stuck in London traffic or on M25. (this is infact a good point)

Turbo sticker on rear screen peeled off some time ago (but Ive seen them sell on ebay.fr for about £20).

Alarm is the original from new, sits under the seat. Its prehistoric so never tried using it, no idea how it works anyway.
