[edit] History of A426 UWP

Owned by Daniel for a number of years, and then sold at The 80's Emporium in 2006, with the following description:

1983/A Renault 5 Gordini Turbo: Very rare Mark 1 front-engined 5 Turbo, the predecessor of the 5 GT Turbo. Finished in original Metallic Silver with very funky red velour seats and carpeting. Standard Equipment: Electric windows, bronze tinted glass, turbo boost and oil pressure gauges, leather-trimmed sports steering wheel & gearknob, front fog-lights, light alloy wheels. Extra-cost options: Metallic paintwork, dealer-fit glass sunroof, rear roof spoiler, passenger wing mirror. Owned by myself for the past 9 years, albeit unused and stored in my barn since 1999.

Would make a superb project for a Renault enthusiast as these cars are so scarce nowadays as they all rotted away, except for mine! With 65,000 genuine miles, low number of owners and a host of original features - e.g. still wearing the original "Carscope Renault Bromsgrove" number plates front and rear, and the original "Turbo" rear wing and rear window decals, all original badges, means it's a very good base for a sympathetic restoration. I paid a lot of money to a Gordini Specialist in 1998 to get it running right: Turbo Technics turbo, replacement Renix ignition module and TDC sensor, replacement carb, new turbo mount brackets, heater matrix, radiator mounts, rear discs, brake pads all round, reconditioned rear calipers, handbrake cables, auxilliary fuel tank straps, set pistons and tappets, new oil cooler, oil pipes, wastegate & actuator settings, comprehensive service and tune-up... It was always my intention to tackle this project myself, but being candid, I know that to return it to my standard of vehicle would cost far more than the car would ever be worth to me of anyone else... so very reluctantly, and with the imminent arrival of a 1987 5 GT Turbo Phase I, I shall sell my Gordini to someone out there who will lavish the money and attention the Gordini deserves.

Over the years I have been buying up parts such as new front wings, rear arch panel, carb, ignition modules, a set of 4 175/50/HR13 tyres, intended to be used on the car. Not only is my Gordini honest and original, and sporting the rare and desirable red interior, but I have sourced some great and authentic extras, such as the extra-cost options: rear roof spoiler, passenger wing mirror (the Gordini Turbo had special wing mirrors shared with the mid-engined 5 Turbo 2), French heating vent bonnet scoop etc. My barn is dry and well ventilated and the Gordini is very solid and not in need of a welding torch, and despite being unused for such a spell, aside from needing new tyres fitted and I suspect more reconditioning of the rear brake calipers, I cannot see it requiring more work to get a new MoT. Many people remember the 5 Gordini Turbo, but when was the last time you saw one?? To a very good home only or I'll hang on to it for another 7 years!

£900 Sold to 1st viewer, a fellow Renault nut who plans to restore it ready to display at a Renault Show in France by July...

Last on the road in mid-2006, according to the DVLA.
