Guide to the conditions:
- Show Condition: The car is in absolutely superb condition. It is free from fault and
is in good enough condition to show. The car is either totally original or has been subject
to an extensive, high-quality restoration. Low mileage can be a contributory factor to the
car being in show condition.
- Condition 1: The car is in very good condition. It is free from major faults and is
capable of being used regularly, with a valid MOT (roadworthiness certificate). There may
be some minor areas of rust or small problems with the car.
- Condition 2: The car is in a useable condition. There may be some faults with the car
which will need attention at some point. There may be areas of rust which need rectifying,
but the car should be free of terminal rust. The car should have a valid MOT.
- Condition 3: The car is in very poor condition. It has major rust and/or some major
mechanical fault(s), which would be expensive to repair. The car is only suitable for spares
or restoration.
Please bear in mind the following:
-
Many people may disagree with my valuation of the Renault 5, particularly regarding the
"Show Condition" prices. However, I believe the value of a car is all down to the
owner's opinion. The owner may not be able to realise the "Show Condition" price
when selling the car, but may wish to have the car insured for that amount. Consider the
immense cost of finding a condition 1 or 2 car and bringing it up to show condition!
-
Prices realised on the open market will also vary, according to supply and demand. If a
vendor wishes to sell a Renault 5, but a buyer cannot be found, the vendor might try and
lower the asking price of the car.
-
If a car has a major fault - i.e. the engine is blown or the gearbox is faulty, then this
must be taken account as far as the value of the car is concerned. In the case of Automatic
Renault 5s, this point is of particular note. If an automatic gearbox is faulty, the cost
of repairing it could be extremely high. The chance of finding a good second-hand gearbox
is remote to say the least!
