Following on from the story of her epic journey to Valencia in 2007 in a decrepit Renault 5, Joanna Backhouse is competing in the Ramshackle Rally 2008! The destination for the 2008 Ramshackle Rally is Krakow in Poland and the route visits Strasbourg, Innsbruck and Bratislava on the way.
The rally starts on the 1st August and the main rule is that cars teams use to compete in must have cost £100 or less! The rally organisers encourage teams to theme their cars.
This year, Joanna and her friends have decided to theme their car as a skunk! Last year's car was a dog (pun intended). The 2008 car is a Rover - another dog... oh dear ;- that looks as though it had an altercation with something or other before being fixed up for the rally. Apparently it has: an animatronic tail, a bottom squirter and makes fart noises!
Their team is called "Kicking up a Stink" and they will be raising money for St. Catherine's Hospice in Crawley. You can support them by going here:
My white Renault 5 TL was filmed for TV in 2004 - it was used in the reconstruction of the assassination of Martin Cahill, an art thief and general "Bad Guy". He was assassinated in 1994 while driving a Renault 5.
I took the car along to a house in the country, where it was filmed. I was also able to act in the programme - I played the assassin! Although the car was filmed in 2004, I didn't get to see the result until recently - nearly four years later... It was on Sky 3 as "Masterminds - The Dublin Job".
I cut out the salient parts of the programme and uploaded them to YouTube - watch the video above!
